"A Correct Heart Disposition is The Need"

MLR 2016

Then, when Mary came where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you had been her, my brother would not have died.
John 11:32 NKJV:

Note here that the difference was not in their speech. Both Martha and Mary spoke exactly the same thing. The difference was not in the place where they met Jesus ... it was on the same spot where Martha met and left Jesus that Mary also met Him. The difference was in their heart disposition. Mary fell down at His feet and wept, but Martha stood her ground and engaged the Master in a long theological discourse. Martha proved knowledge but Mary pleaded for mercy. It is not how much eloquence we bring to our prayer and petition that will move the Saviour to act on our behalf. It is the intensity of our hearts, it is the desperation of our quest that melts the heart of the Master and moves Him into a compassionate action. Mary only spoke once and it was enough for the LORD to rise to action ... Martha spoke much, quoted several scriptures, but the Redeemer did not move an inch.

Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, he groaned in the Spirit and was troubled.
John 11:33 NKJV:

This is the point we must not overlook here. “When Jesus saw her weeping... He himself groaned in the Spirit and was troubled.” Mary's broken heartedness broke the Master's heart. Her tender heartedness tempered the LORD'S emotions and he groaned in the Spirit. He could not hold back the tears. He melted in loving compassion. The Master wept! Martha could not bring the LORD in any way to this point of outburst. This is crucial in our relationship and labours...with the Lord!
