INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE APEX CLERGY RETREAT, GBOKO
Grace great grace from our Lord’s inexhaustible store be multiplied un-to you in Jesus name. I have the honour and privilege again, this year, to invite you, as one of the leaders of God’s people, to a strategic session of the Apex Clergy Retreat.
The situation in Nigeria and other nations in the past few years have become so pa-thetic and we can no longer keep quiet, as if we are not in a state of emergency when the priests of the Lord ought to blow an alarm and a trumpet. Presently there are questions and dilemmas on the hearts of our flock: “When will God arise for us and what are our fathers in God and spiritual leaders doing? Shall we sit here till we die?”
The story of the children of Israel under the priesthood of Eli, the high priest has come again as a replay in our time. The Philistines in their camp have strengthened them-selves together with a resolve to win this battle against God’s people or die. They would rather die than see themselves as slaves to the children of Israel.
“Be strong, and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight. And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.” 1 Samuel 4:9-10 KJV
Eli’s eyes were said to have waxed dim. The sanctuary was ravaged with reckless liv-ing, sexual immorality and unbridled embezzlement of the offerings of the Lord. False doctrine and fake prophecies took the centre stage until the ark of the Lord was taken out from between the Cherubims and the glory of the Lord departed from His people. Philis-tines vowed to play the men for their people and God’s people were wasted day by day. Can you not see that our situation is not different in these past few years? The wicked seems to advance daily in every area and have decided to take over and sack God’s people from the land. Can we sit down here till we die? What congregation shall we be presiding over even if we are spared alive?
Our apex clergy retreat this year is a clarion call and a summon to the feet of the Lord who ordained us and charged us with this enormous responsibility of standing on the walls as watchmen and women. We are called to contend for the faith and for the people of the faith. We can no longer sit back and not arise to stand between the living and the dead. The affairs of Nige-ria and several nations are turning down the hill and we cannot watch the enemy destroy the herit-age of our early fathers who did not consider their lives dear to them while they laboured in great jeopardy to establish our present territories for Christ.
As we gather before the Lord this year, we will stand between the porch and the altar, seeking God’s mercy and wisdom for what we must arise to do. We must give God no rest and ourselves must not seek any rest until the Lord has arisen to help us and uproot this wicked confederacy against Christ and His Church in our nations.
We shall also seek His face in contending for the doctrine of our God which is being eroded here and there in the nations. The report of the Theological Educators Congress will be discussed as it may bring fresh direction to our theological institutions where we raise future hands for the ministry.
We are in a great distress. Please report at His feet along with us and let us take counsel together in the place of concerted prayer and intercession. God in heaven still rules in the af-fairs of men, but we His ambassadors on earth must give Him no rest.
